The business has been making garden fresh vine-ripened and hand-picked pizza sauce since 1950. Their pizza sauce is authentic and simple.
You need to check out their website and get your package of pizza sauce, or do a search and find other sources for purchasing their sauce.
Sloppy Joes have been a long time meal that I have made for my family. Most of the time it is a basic sloppy Joe sauce. Ketchup, mustard, brown sugar and more were the usual ingredients in the dish. This time, I went Pizzeria style. The filling has Don Pepino pizza sauce, some brown sugar, mustard and seasonings. It really tastes like a pizza especially with the crispy pepperoni slices, shredded mozzarella and black olive. Oh and I made sure to add onion and green bell pepper into the filling.
Crispy pepperoni slices are so easy to make. Bake the slices on parchment paper at 400 degrees for 7 minutes. Remove and cool on paper towel to drain. The slices will continue to crisp up as they cool.
I decided to not butter and toast the buns. Why?? Because I love a soft bun for my Soppy Joe sliders. You certainly could butter and toast the bottom and top buns to your liking.
I like to shred my own mozzarella cheese to avoid the caking agents the pre-shredded cheese come tossed in. They can interfere with the smooth melting process.
All of the ingredients could be made ahead of time. Filling can be rewarmed and then the sliders heated. This will make game day, party time or a family food go much easier.
Don’t skip on the buttery garlic parsley tipping that is brushed on the bun tops. It really adds so much flavor. My taste testers even commented to the buttery bun tops.

Slightly sweet pizza sloppy joe mixture, crispy pepperoni slices, shredded mozzarella cheese and black olives. The brushing of buttery garlic and parsley topping is the perfect finish.
Sloppy Joe Pizza Sliders
Makes 12 sliders
Sloppy Sliders:
24 slices pepperoni
1 pound ground turkey or beef
1/2 cup onion, minced
1/2 cup green bell pepper, minced
1 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
2 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 -14.5 oz. can Don Pepino Pizza Sauce
3 tablespoons brown sugar
2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
2 tablespoons yellow mustard
3/4 cup shredded mozzarella
1/4 cup black olives, sliced
12 count pkg. dinner rolls
Topping for buns:
4 tablespoons melted butter
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 teaspoons Parmesan cheese
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 tablespoon fresh chopped parsley
Arrange the pepperoni slices on a baking sheet lined with parchment. Bake at 400 degrees for 7 minutes. Remove and transfer to a paper towel and set aside.
In a skillet, add in the ground turkey, onion, bell pepper, kosher salt and black pepper. Cook until the ground turkey is no longer pink. Add in the garlic and cook for several minutes. Stir in the Don Pepino Pizza Sauce and brown sugar, 2 teaspoons of apple cider vinegar, 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning and yellow mustard.
Reduce to a simmer and cook for 10 minutes to allow meat mixture to reduce and thicken. Set side.
Heat oven to 350. Cut the slider buns in half. Place onto a baking sheet. Spread the sloppy joe mixture over the bottom buns. Top with the shredded mozzarella cheese. Arrange the crispy pepperoni slices on top as well as the black olives. Heat until the cheese has melted approximately 3-5 minutes. Remove the baking tray from the oven and place the top buns over the filling. Brush the top of the buns with the seasoned melted butter. Heat another 5-6 minutes to brown the buns!
